The second monthly D+S Review happened at Mercantile Dining & Provisions for February. The Mercantile is at 1701 Wynkoop Street in Denver at Union Station.
Ambiance – Union Station is a very large and stately building. The Mercantile’s Chefs table (If you can get it) and bar are more interesting/inviting than the dining room. The dining room is secondary and our last choice for setting. The Bar is open and a great space to be with friends or loved ones.
Sound: Large space, can be loud at times but very manageable.
Must Try Eats: We tried the grilled ancient ciabatta and the Shishito peppers with pig ears. The peppers and pig ears were a great pairing and delicious. We also recommend ordering main entrees and sharing if you are going as a couple. The duck and octopus were amazing (pictured above.) We got great reviews on the crispy chicken and the short ribs from bar patrons. Great chefs and wonderful food pairings. Nice solid palette presentations. Shareable appetizers.
Must Try Sips: Our favorite was the Norlander with aquavit, aperol, cucumber, sherry, grapefruit, lemon and tonic. Great large airy bar and knowledgeable bartenders.
Service: Very attentive & happy.
Noteworthy Quirks: The entire Union Station experience is noteworthy and fun
Chefs Owners: Mercantile is the brainchild of famed Chef Alex Seidel, owner of Fruition and Fruition Farms.
Food Stylist Stephen Shern is seen here styling a delicious cheeseburger. Using small shears to cut away lettuce, every detail matters when you’re making food beautiful!
